The full context of Nirmala sithraman's response to raising onion prices in Lok Sabha
While responding to MP Supriya Sule's question on rising onion prices on Wednesday in lok sabha, the finance minister was interrupted by another Parliamentarian who asked if she ate onions imported from Egypt.Sithraman repond by saying: "I don't eat a lot onions and garlic so don't worry.I come from family that doesn't have much to do with onion's".Many have criticised the comment, but outlets including BOOM Factcheck pointed out that Sithraman was Responding to the question about Eqyptian onions, rather than commenting on the onion prices crisis.
MP Supriya Sule asked Sithrman about the decline in onion production:
Before she could respond to sule, another parliamentarian asked her if she ate Egyptian onions in reference to the central government approving the import of oinions from Egypt to improve the domestic supply and control prices.Giving a rebuttal to that ,the finance minister made the remark that she doesn't eat much onions and comes from a family where onions dont't matter
